Emilia Pérez follows four remarkable women in Mexico, each seeking their own happiness
Cartel leader Emilia enlists Rita, an underappreciated lawyer, to help fake her death so she can finally live authentically as her true self. Karla Sofía Gascón talks about the two years of preparation it took for this demanding role in Jacques Audiard’s film, and the two extremes of her own personality she had to portray as Emilia and Manitas. Jacques Audiard said he was inspired for the idea for the musical by a chapter in a novel about a drug dealer who yearns to change his identity.

The acting and cast are spot on
Interesting concept that the writers have cleverly used. It’s a musical, so be prepared to see a few songs here and there during the dialogue. It’s a unique story that keeps you guessing and you can’t help but wonder what’s coming next.
It’s definitely not a conventional film
The flow of the film is delicately handled at the beginning, but then it picks up a slower pace that I believe is there to ground the character development and invoke emotional appeal. I won’t comment on the ending, as that would give it away and kill the anticipation that was so carefully built. I would say that you’ll be shocked at times, but at some point you’ll become immune to it, especially the eccentric characters and bold plot.
