Coincidentally, Aidan Turner previously starred in Chavenage House (The Priory in Rivals)
Chronology
Follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Badingham as their long-standing rivalry comes to an end. The same filming location was also used to introduce Trenwith House in the 2015 BBC TV adaptation of Poldark.. I read the contenders a few years ago and enjoyed every page!
The characters, especially Aidan Turner as the prominent journalist Declan O’Hara and David Tennant as the nasty Lord Bee, are superb!
It’s quite difficult to compare a book and its characters to its TV adaptation, as we all have our own perceptions of how certain characters should look and act. Also, while we can read a book at our leisure, TV has to move at a pace that fits the format and not drag, so some characters or subplots may have to be put on hold for a while. That being said, yes there are differences from the book, but none so great as to spoil the overall fun and entertainment value.
Makes us love Declan as much as we hate Lord B!
The 80’s music is fantastic, although one part I found annoying was the high operatic music at the beginning, it just didn’t fit. As for all the sex scenes, yes, we can do without some because we all have imaginations, but this wouldn’t be the book Cooper wrote. It was wonderful to see Jilly Cooper in the restaurant lunch scene.
She looked like she was really enjoying the show and so was I
The last episode ended quite differently from the book so I hope there is at least one more season to see what happens with Taggie and RCB. . .
And of course we know the evil Lord B has to be around to wreak more havoc
