Amana Dryer Troubleshooting and Problems

Amana dryers are consumer dryers manufactured for use in the home. There are several models of Amana dryers available, all with different features. Problems with the dryers, however, are common across all models.

You can correct problems with your dryer by following certain troubleshooting steps and fixing the machine yourself.

Dryer Does Not Operate

There are several reasons why your Amana dryer may not run. First check that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. If the dryer wasn’t fully plugged into the outlet, the vibrations of the dryer may dislodge the plug. Check that it is secure in the outlet.

Next, make sure the dryer door is fully closed. Amana dryers will not run if the door has been opened. If the door has been opened, you must press the “Start” button again to run the machine.

Dryer Does Not Heat

There are times when Amana dryers do not heat up. In most cases this is because the dryer is running on a cycle that does not use heat to dry the clothes. Check that the dryer is set to a heat cycle. In addition, some cycles on Amana dryers have heat and air drying. The dryer may have moved into an air cycle.

If you are using a heat cycle, check the lint filter, and clean it out if needed. A clogged lint filter may restrict airflow and keep the dryer from properly heating. Another potential cause of air flow restriction, which can prevent the dryer from heating, is a clogged exhaust hose or vent. Remove the exhaust hose from the back of the machine, and clean out any debris. Next, check the exhaust vent for any obstructions, and clean it or replace the vent as needed.

Dryer is Noisy

You may notice that your Amana dryer makes noise during normal operation. In most instances, the noises are made by common functions of the dryer. Clicking noises are often the timer moving through the cycle, and a hum is air flowing into and out of the dryer.

Other noises are not part of the normal operating procedure and should be fixed. Any rattling inside the dryer is often an object, such as keys or coins, that has fallen out of a piece of clothing. Open the door of the dryer, and take out any of the objects that are rattling around.

Next, make sure the dryer is sitting on a flat, solid floor. You may need to adjust the feet on the bottom of the dryer so the unit is level. In addition, check that the rubber feet are placed on all of the legs to mute the vibrations of the dryer on the floor.
