The GE has also a unit of the production of household appliances (GE Appliances).

GE Dishwasher Troubleshooting and Problems

There are a number of different faults which any dishwasher might suffer from, below we’ll look at GE specific problems, how the GE dishwasher will display the fault and some troubleshooting tips to help you repair the problem.

Along with most dishwashers, a General Electric dishwasher indicates detected errors with a code on the control panel display. These error codes can be used as a guide to help troubleshoot any dishwasher problems which could end up saving you money on a repair call-out or at least give you a good indication of where the problem lies.

  • Error Code PF – Power Failure – Press the cancel button to clear the error, if the problem continues then check the power supply to the dishwasher, the electrical connections and the circuit breaker. This could also point to a problem with the PCB.
  • Error Code C1 – Drainage Problem – The dishwasher has detected that the dishwasher is taking too long to drain. It may be a faulty pump, or more simply just a blocked filter or drain. Remove and clean the filters from the basin of the dishwasher, ensure the drain is unobstructed and check the outlet pipe for kinks.
  • Error Code C2 – No Drainage, as above but the drain is totally blocked. Take same course of action as C1.
  • Error Code C3 – Dishwasher Cycle will not go in drain mode (yep, another drainage issue!). Again follow the steps in C1 although C3 suggests a possible problem with electrics in the control panel.
  • Error Code C4 – Dishwasher is Overfilling – Check the water inlet and ensure water pressure is not too high, also check the inlet valve as it may be faulty.
  • Error Code C5 – Not Enough Water – The opposite of C4, check the inlet again, make sure the water supply is on and available to the dishwasher, that the inlet pipe if unblocked and free from kinks and that the inlet valve is open.
  • Error Code C6 – Water Temperature too low – The water is not getting up to temperature. Most like a problem with the heating element in the basin of the dishwasher, or a faulty thermostat. If you have electrical experience you can check the heating element with a voltmeter
  • Error Code C7 – Faulty Temperature Sensor – Will probably need replacing, the sensor is found inside the door.
  • Error Code C8 – Detergent hatch is blocked. The detergent hatch is failing to open during the cycle. Check the catch to make sure it isn’t damaged, and that no dishes are blocking the flap, preventing it from opening.
