JennAir Refrigerator Troubleshooting and Problems

JennAir Refrigerator Not Cooling

Step #1 – Check for Power Issues

Before you troubleshoot anything else for a JennAir refrigerator not cooling, check the power supply. Make sure the power cord is plugged in all the way. Also check the power cord for any damage, like frayed wires.

If all seems well with the power cord, then inspect the outlet for damage. It’s possible the circuit tripped, so reset the switch to your refrigerator’s outlet to rule out a power issue.

Note: Don’t plug your refrigerator into an extension cord. Plug it directly into a grounded outlet. Doing otherwise is potentially dangerous and may damage your fridge.

Step #2: Inspect Door Seals for Damage

A JennAir refrigerator won’t cool if the door seals or gaskets are dirty or damaged. First, clean it with warm, soapy water. Then be sure to rinse off all the soap and dry with a cloth. If cleaning the door gasket shows no results, test the seal.

To check if the door gasket is sealing, make sure nothing else is blocking the refrigerator door from closing. Next, hold a piece of paper in the doorway and close the door. If the piece of paper can be pulled out with little to no resistance, then the gasket is not sealing correctly. Consequently, your JennAir refrigerator won’t get cold.

A damaged door gasket needs replacement. Do this yourself by looking in your JennAir refrigerator owner’s manual for the correct part and detailed instructions.

Step #3: Make Sure Temperature Is Set Properly

The perfect temperature range for your refrigerator is between 35 and 37 degrees Fahrenheit and below 0 degrees for the freezer. A temperature measuring above this indicates your JennAir refrigerator not cooling or the temperature settings are off.

To check the temperature settings, look at the control panel found at the top of the refrigerator compartment. The display will tell you the current setting. Change the temperature using the up arrow button. This sets the refrigerator to a higher setting and lowers the temperature.

Step #4: Clean the Condenser Coils

The most common reason for a JennAir refrigerator not cooling is dirty condenser coils. As the refrigerant moves through them, the coils release heat. When the coils are covered with dust, then they can’t release heat properly.

Luckily, it’s easy to clean the coils yourself. Most JennAir condenser coils are found underneath the refrigerator. Use an appliance brush and vacuum hose to remove and suck up any debris. For hard to reach places, use a compressed air canister to blow away any remaining dirt.

Step #5: Diagnose Part Failures

Sometimes, the reason your refrigerator won’t cool is more complicated. From time to time, refrigerator components break. Some common part failures include:

  • Faulty condenser fan
  • Defective evaporator fan
  • Broken thermistor
